Cyclone girls bowlers rally past OABCIG
IDA GROVE (Jan. 21) -- The Harlan Community girls bowling team used a Baker games rally to defeat OABCIG by 18 pins last Thursday while the Cyclone boys lost their dual to the Falcons by a margin of 345.
HCHS won the girls meet 2,341 to 2,323 despite OABCIG boasting the top two individual scores of the day as Amber Hoefling rolled a 435 (244-191) and Kylee Dausel had a 342 (181-161). The Cyclones still only trailed by 62 pins following the individual round, then outscored the hosts 765-685 in the Baker games format to win at the wire. Much of the rally came in the final game, which the Cyclones won 177-129.
The HCHS girls’ five counting scores were all over 300, led by Lily Hegarty’s 338 (149-189). Madison Horn tallied a 321, followed by Sydney O’Neill (312), Macey Bendorf (305) and Abby Swank (300).
The Cyclone boys were defeated 2,446 to 2,101 as Damon Jones’ 346 paced five Falcon bowlers with a two-game series of 300 or higher. Andrew Andersen led HCHS with a 323 (124-199), followed by Tegan Steinkuehler (298) and Braydon Ernst (295).
Going into Thursday’s home meet vs. Clarinda, the HCHS girls held an overall record of 9-1 while the boys were 3-7. The OABCIG boys are 6-3 and the girls stand at 4-5.
