Cyclone baseball team crushes Heelan

SIOUX CITY -- One week into the high school baseball season, the only opponent causing Harlan Community any trouble is Mother Nature.
The Cyclones’ home game vs. Sioux City North was rained out Thursday - marking the second postponement in three games - but they were able to finish the week with a 12-0 (five-inning) rout at Sioux City Heelan on Friday.
Ranked second in Class 3-A, HCHS (2-0) outhit the Crusaders 13-1 and has now outscored its first two opponents 29-5 in a pair of mercy-rule wins.
Heelan entered the game with a 3-0 record but managed just one single off Cyclone starting pitcher Brett Sears in three innings. Josh Cheek followed with two hitless frames of relief and the joint shutout included four strikeouts and just one base-on-balls.
