Bruck one-hitter leads Cyclones past D-S

DENISON (July 10) -- Connor Bruck outdueled Evan Turin with a one-hitter Friday afternoon as Harlan Community blanked Denison-Schleswig 1-0 in non-conference baseball action.
The game was originally scheduled for Thursday night but was postponed due to wet grounds.
HCHS, which beat the Monarchs 2-0 in last month’s Hawkeye Ten matchup, has allowed just one hit and zero runs in two games against D-S this season. The Cyclones improved to 10-3 overall while Denison fell to 8-7.
Bruck (3-1) pitched his first complete game of the season Friday and did not allow a runner past second base. Braiden Heiden’s sixth-inning double with two out spoiled the potential no-hitter but Bruck was undaunted and finished the shutout with 11 strikeouts and just two walks.
The Cyclones scored the game’s only run in the top of the first when Bruck led off with a single, stole second and scored on Luke Musich’s RBI ground out.
HCHS had just five base runners during the last six innings against Turin (1-2), who lost for the second time vs. Harlan this summer. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out eight.
Bruck went 2-for-4 with a double on the day while Joey Moser, Brenden Bartley, Isaiah Ahrenholtz and Musich all added a single.
