Bowling: HCHS rallies fall short at Denison
DENISON -- Both Harlan Community bowling teams fared well in the Baker Games format but could not overcome their individual round deficits in losing to Denison-Schleswig Dec. 19 at Lucky Lanes.
The HCHS girls ended up falling by just 37 total pins (2445 to 2408) after outscoring the Monarchs 831-772 in the Baker Games. Abby Swank rolled a meet-best 390 two-game set (170-220) to lead the Cyclones and Jayden Gessert had a 334.
The HCHS boys lost by 249 pins (2936 to 2687) despite an excellent Baker total of 1019. Jake Dotzler led the Cyclones with a high game of 220 and a 377 series, followed by Darren Stein (373), Sam Andersen (344) and Brennon Munch (310). HCHS finished a consistent Baker Games with a 259.
Isaac Jones (366) and Anna Grote (318) finished with high scores for Harlan’s junior varsity squads that would have both ranked third at the varsity level.
