Area trio to play in 44th annual Shrine Bowl

CEDAR FALLS -- Three area football players, one cheerleader, one coach and a manager are taking part in this week’s Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Football Classic, culminating with Saturday’s 44th annual Shrine Bowl game at the UNI-Dome.
The game will start at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, and will be televised on a tape-delay basis by Mediacom Connections Channel 22 starting at 5:00 p.m. The game will be re-aired at 8:00 p.m. Sunday as well as other select times throughout next week.
Area participants, who are all 2016 high school graduates, include Harlan Community’s Ethan Knudson and Max Langenfeld as well as Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton’s Martin Olson. All three will compete for the South Squad, whose coaching staff includes Exira-EHK head coach Tom Petersen as one of six assistants. Petersen’s son, Tyler, will be a team manager.
In addition, AHSTW’s Cassie Renfeld was selected for the cheerleading squad.
