All-State baseball teams announced

 DES MOINES (Aug. 3) -- The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association announced its 2021 all-state baseball teams on Tuesday, naming three teams per class and four captains.
 The teams were selected during a virtual meeting with sports writers and coaches from around the state.
 This year’s senior captains include Blaine Harpenau of Remsen St. Mary’s in Class 1A, Zach Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter (2A), Owen Puk of Marion (3A) and Brody Brecht of Ankeny (4A). Puk and Pleggenkuhle were both part of state championship teams.
 No players from area teams Harlan Community, AHSTW, IKM-Manning or Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton were cited on this year’s all-state teams.
 First-team selections from the region included Leyton Nelson of Tri-Center, Isaac Sherrill, Cy Patterson and Brendon Monahan - all from 1A state champion St. Albert - Lane Spieker of CAM, and Drew Taylor of Panorama.
