All-conference honors granted to 45 area ball players

 AREA -- The 2016 Hawkeye Ten, Western Iowa and Rolling Valley all-conference baseball and softball teams include 15 first-teamers and 45 total players from the Harlan Newspapers’ four-school coverage area.
 This year’s local squads combined for a total record of 133-87 (.605), led by the Harlan Community baseball team’s 30-5 overall mark and Class 3-A state championship. The IKM-Manning (22-8) and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton (20-7) softball teams put together 20-win seasons and matched HCHS baseball by placing second in their respective conferences. Area baseball teams finished 67-37 this summer while the softball teams went 66-50.
 The HCHS baseball team leads the area with four first-team selections while the IKM-Manning softball team boasts the most total recognition with eight players on the Western Iowa Conference’s first team, second team or honorable mention lists. Overall, 23 area softball players and 22 baseball players have been honored.
