Rex Hugo Ploen, 99

Rex Hugo Ploen (1923-2022) 99,
of Denver, CO passed away on October
13,2022. He was born in Shelby,
Iowa to Hugo and Emma Ploen.
Rex served in the U.S. Marine
Corps as an aviator during World War
II from 1942-1946 flying a Hellcat off
the US Block Island and left service
as a Captain.
After serving Rex returned to Iowa
where he attended the University
of Iowa from 1946-1950. During his
years attending Iowa he competed
in track and participated in the Drake
Relays.
He met and married Ruth Giblin August 23,1947 and upon graduation in 1950
Rex entered the FBI as a Special Agent serving from 1950-1977. While in the Bureau
Rex served in four field offices including Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Detroit
and Las Vegas, Nevada where he retired in 1977.
After retirement from 1977-1981 Rex and his wife, Ruth (Gib) worked abroad
with the London and Singapore American Schools in the field of education.
In 1982 Rex and his wife returned to the US living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming;
Estepona, Spain; Hilton Head, South Carolina; St Augustine, Florida; Tucson/
Prescott, Arizona and finally Denver, Colorado as homes.
Rex is survived by his two sons: Jeffrey Ploen (Gail) and Jason Ploen (Maureen);
his three grandchildren: Zachary Ploen, Gretchen Vincent and Hollis Crawford;
and three great grandchildren: Tatum Ploen, Maisy Ploen and Elin Vincent.
