Lonnie Lee Benson, 60

October 3, 1962 - February 22, 2023

 Lonnie Lee Benson, son of Edwin and Connie (Elmquist) Benson was born on October 3, 1962 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa, where he remained a lifetime member.  He attended and graduated from Irwin-Kirkman High School before attending Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, Iowa.
From a young age, Lonnie loved farming and working with his Angus cattle and showing them.  He had several bulls that were top gaining in Iowa Beef Improvement Association.
He loved to go fishing in Minnesota and other places.  Lonnie had a love for classic cars, he bought and sold several different models.  He was happiest while driving them and taking them to car shows.
Lonnie passed away at his home in Irwin on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, attaining the age of sixty years, four months and nineteen days.  He is survived by his daughter Tabby Benson and her fiancé John Machell of Elkhorn, Nebraska; parents Edwin and Connie Benson of Harlan, Iowa; siblings Glenda and her husband Dan Cantrell of Harlan, Iowa; Lynn Benson and his wife Lynda of Grimes, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
A 1:00 PM Funeral Service was officiated by Pastor Phil Nielsen on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa. Dan Cantrell, Jesse Cantrell, Logan Gawley, Lynn Benson, Pete Grave, Rodney Johnson, Shane Havick, and Steve Gawley served as pallbearers. Carl Swaggert, Cole Benson, Jock Fokken, Rick “Trapper” Wittrock, Luke Benson, Mike Cuchel, Tim Axland, and Tom Manning served as honorary pallbearers. A burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, Iowa following the service.
Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
