Lois (Hull) Eriksen

July 21, 1946 - July 4, 2023

Lois Jean Hull was born on July 21,1946, to Harold & Mildred (Darnell) Hull in Harlan, IA. Lois made her home in Florida, dying peacefully on July 4th, 2023, at her daughter’s home in South Daytona Beach.
Lois grew up on a farm outside of Jacksonville, IA, and attended Jackson #3 schoolhouse. When living on the farm she did her share of chores and could always be found driving the tractor during hay-making season. She was baptized and confirmed at Jacksonville Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir. While attending high school, Lois was a Flag Twirler with the marching band, and contributed to working on the class yearbook. During her senior year, she was assigned as a teaching assistant to a grade school class, held the position of FFA Secretary, and was crowned Shelby County Soil Conservation Queen. After graduating from HCHS with the Class of 1964, Lois took her farming skills to California and harvested strawberries, for a day, so she could afford a ticket to Disneyland. After her short stint harvesting fruits and vegetables, Lois honed her secretarial skills at Perkin-Elmer Aerospace, where her mid-western personality, humor, and exceptional organizational skills dazzled her California co-workers. In 1977, Lois accepted a position with Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, Florida, and moved across the country. She continued to work there for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Executive Administrative Assistant, supporting top executives.
Lois married James R. Eriksen on November 28, 1981, they adopted two children, David and Jennifer. Even though the marriage dissolved, they remained friends through the years. And as a dedicated mother Lois loved her children and granddaughters unconditionally. Lois enjoyed any time spent in Iowa and always welcomed destination visitors into her home. In years past Lois kept a catalog of photographs and when reminiscing she could narrow down a date and go right to the photograph she was thinking of. She kept a meticulous running list of family wedding anniversaries, birth-dates, and death-dates to include every full/half/step-member, affectionately referring to the list as the “Hull of Fame”. With the list growing to well over 100 it is nearly impossible to have everyone together in one spot, so Lois took a real liking to social media and enjoyed all the photos shared by her family & friends, she didn’t miss a chance to leave a birthday wish, comment on a new baby, share a memory or poke a little fun. Her quick-wit and sense of humor was the best. Laughter was her medicine, with family & friends always on her mind and in her heart. She will be missed by many.
Lois is proceeded in death by her parents, Harold & Mildred Hull. Her sisters, Rose Marie Coenen, Rosalene Hardy, and Carol Ann Throlson. Nephews, Jerry Throlson, Joseph Hull, and great-nephew, Christopher Lynn Coenen. Ex-husband Jim Eriksen. Survivors include her son David Eriksen and grand-daughter Shania Eriksen of Palm Bay, FL. Her daughter Jenn Eriksen, partner Farrah Becker and grand-daughter Lyric Becker, South Daytona Beach, FL. Surviving siblings include Larry & Kathy Hull, Bondurant, IA, Delbert Hull, Kirkman, IA and Mary Sue & Bill Murtaugh, Johnston, IA. Brother-in-laws, Bruce Hardy, Manning, IA and Clarence Coenen, Windsor, CO. 15 nieces & nephews, 39 great-nieces & nephews, 26 great-great nieces & nephews, many cousins, and close friends.
