LaVern Schmitz, 86

    HARLAN -- LaVern Leo Schmitz, 86, Harlan, died March 20 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.
    Services were held Thursday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance with burial in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance.
    Schmitz is survived by sons Rick (Cris) Schmitz of Gillette, WY, Doug (Cindy) Schmitz of Defiance, Ed (Susan) Schmitz of Defiance, and Paul (Shelley) Schmitz of Council Bluffs; daughters Sally (Ron) Weihs of Four Seasons, MO, Rosemary (Mike) McCoy of Urbandale, and Cindy (John) Auffart of Council Bluffs; sisters Sr. Bernice Schmitz of Milwaukee, WI, Arlene (Bob) Hodapp of Denver, CO, and Sr. Loraine Schmitz of Milwaukee; brother Lester Schmitz of Harlan; 22 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.
