Jan Lakers (85), of Elk Horn, NE died on Saturday, April, 1, 2023.  She was born August 13, 1937 in Manning, IA the daughter of Arlo & Thelma (Ramsey) Hodne.
Jan was married to John (Jack) Lakers on April 6, 1956. Jack and Jan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006 with their family. Jan was a member of St. Michael’s Church in Harlan, IA since 1968.
Jan began her working career in the Grocery Store industry in Manning, Iowa and continued in that industry when she moved to Harlan, Iowa. She worked as a cashier and in the produce departments. Jan and her husband Jack went into business with other partners when they purchased the Irwin Feed Service. Jan then worked as a bookkeeper and customer service representative. When Jan retired she enjoyed reading books to grade school students at the Irwin school. She especially enjoyed her coffee dates at the Irwin Country Store with her friends. She loved to spend time in Las Vegas at her son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Tami’s town house with her sister-in-law Linda Stoen. They would sometimes be joined by Jan’s other sister-in-law, Janice. It would be a nice family reunion. While in Las Vegas, they would meet up with Jan’s sister-in-law, Kate Milligan, her husband, Jack, and their two daughters, Maureen and Laura.  Before Jack died, Jan and Jack would go to Brownsville, TX in February. They looked forward to this every year and met many new friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, Arlo and Thelma Hodne, and her three brothers, LaRue, Ron, and Don Hodne.  Survivors include two sons, Tim (Tami) Lakers of Las Vegas, NV, and Mark Lakers; five grandchildren, Ryan Lakers, Andy Lakers, David Lakers, Michael Lakers and Nathan Lakers; and ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Linda Stoen of Fargo, ND, Janice Lakers of Kalamazoo, MI and Sally Hodne of Manning, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Wake will be held at PauleyJones Funeral Home 1304 9th St Harlan, IA. on Wednesday, April 12 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Harlan, IA on Thursday April 13 at 11 am with lunch to follow and burial at the Irwin Union Cemetery to follow the lunch service.
