Charles “Scott” Lyon

October 23, 1977- January 22, 2023

Charles “Scott” Lyon was born on October 23, 1977 to Charles and Cheryle Hoden Lyon in Harlan, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1996.
Scott found the love of his life when he met Marren Stilwell in 2001. They were united in marriage at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on January 25, 2003. Together, Scott and Marren have 5 children, Drayke (25), Dylan (22), Ashton (19), Cash (11), and Hayden (8) who were his greatest pride and joy.
Scott’s favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing with his boys and his silver lab, Diesel. He loved to play cards, take his boat out for fishing and fun, and follow the 49’ers.  Scott took great pride in his 1991 Mustang, and loved NASCAR. In 1996, Scott joined Western Engineering where he eventually became a supervisor.  Along the way, he spent many of his construction years working for and alongside his dad, until Chuck’s retirement in 2017.  Outside of work, Scott could often be found at the boys’ sporting events, cheering them on and making sure they felt supported.
Scott made it a priority to spend quality time with his and Marren’s close group of friends and throughout the years they attended many concerts and other fun events together.  Scott’s dedication to his family was demonstrated in all he did.  Scott was known to be loyal and unconditionally supportive of those he loved and cared for. Many friends, family, acquaintances, and even those he just met have stories of how Scott helped them, both in big and small ways and in good and bad times.  Nothing was more important to him than Marren and the boys.  He loved being a husband and dad. He was never more proud than the days he got to welcome a new baby to the world.  Even as a busy adult with a family of his own, it was important to Scott that he maintain a close relationship with his mom, dad, and brother.  Scott thrived when the whole family was together on holidays or any day in-between.
In April of 2021, Scott was diagnosed with stage 4 Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.  The news was devastating to his family and friends, but Scott remained optimistic through the many hospital stays, hours of treatment, and painful side-effects.  During a break in treatments, Scott was able to get back to work and he was eager to be back doing the job he loved.  Harlan, as a community, rallied around Scott, Marren, and the boys and Marren will forever be grateful for the much needed support.  As the cancer progressed and treatments were no longer beneficial, Scott never complained and kept his positive attitude. We were not ready to let him go, but God had greater plans for him. Scott passed away on January 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Cheryle Lyon.
He is survived by his wife Marren Lyon of Harlan, IA; children, Drayke Eshelman, Dylan Eshelman,  Ashton Lyon, Cash Lyon, and Hayden Lyon all of Harlan, IA; brother, Chad (Johanna) Lyon and their son Blake Lyon of Plattsmouth, NE; other family members and an abundance of friends.
