Shelby County Republican Party Central Committee, Shelby County Democrats tout their parties’ presidential candidates

 SHELBY COUNTY —  At the top of the 2024 general election ballot is the race for the White House, with Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump and VP running mate J.D. Vance, and current Democratic Vice President Kamala D. Harris and VP running mate Tim Walz.
 Shelby County Democrats Co-Chair Amber Mohr and Shelby County Republican Party Central Committee Chair Tammi Schulz, along with Communication Committee members Mike Shaw and Sara Ferneding, tout  their party’s presidential ticket as the best option.
‘Policies allow every American to thrive’
 Mohr said she believes Harris and Walz will protect and preserve Democracy, and honor the human rights of every citizen. “We believe Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have the character and temperament to lead our nation on domestic and international stages, and the policies to allow every American to thrive,” Mohr said.
 “Their policy proposals will address the most pressing concerns for the average working-class American, including: a $6,000 tax credits for new parents; new incentives and financial assistance for first-time home buyers; a ban on corporate price gouging, which has led to crippling prices on basic necessities; investment in education, including a national expansion of Early Head Start and tuition reduction at four-year public universities for students with annual incomes of less than $125,000; revival of the bi-partisan border security bill; restoration of maternal health care and protection of reproductive freedom; defense and strengthening of social security and Medicare; investment in affordable child care and long term care, and continuation of the progress towards affordable pharmaceuticals; the erasure of medical debt; complete support of Ukraine; promotion of a two-state solution in Gaza and Israel; and tackling the opioid and fentanyl crisis and make our communities safer from gun violence and crime,” Mohr said.
 Mohr believes a Harris Presidency will stand with allies and against dictators. “It will protect, restore, and promote every individual’s rights, freedoms, and liberties. Kamala Harris has been elected and served in the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government, making her more qualified than any presidential candidate in our lifetime. Likewise, Tim Walz’s record of bi-partisan leadership has led to a thriving middle class in Minnesota with signature investments in education, public health, workers’ rights, and clean energy.”
‘Policies grounded in common sense principles, economic strength, and patriotic unity’
 Schulz, Shaw and Ferneding believe Donald Trump’s success and unique experience make him the clear choice this election.
 “Under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. achieved strong economic growth, expanded job opportunities, and focused on bolstering American farmers and businesses. Trump will deliver economic resilience through tax reforms, deregulation, and incentives that foster domestic manufacturing and energy independence.  As millions of Americans express concerns about inflation, high gas prices, and the rising cost of living, Trump’s economic policies will provide the relief and stability they seek,” the Shelby County GOP Committee said.
 In addition to economic reforms, the group believes Trump’s platform emphasizes national security, strong borders, and a commitment to eliminating drug and human trafficking. “He advocates for securing America’s borders through comprehensive immigration reform, prioritizing lawful immigration and reinforced border protection. This approach aligns with the GOP’s vision of a secure America, promising an orderly immigration system that not only safeguards jobs and resources but also combats trafficking and enhances safety for all Americans.”
 The committee said Trump’s emphasis on law and order resonates with those who are concerned about crime and safety in their communities. “By increasing support for law enforcement and criminal justice reforms, Trump seeks to address rising crime rates across urban and rural areas alike.” They said Trump and the GOP prioritize “peace through strength, emphasizing a well-funded, modernized military to deter conflicts and protect American interests. This approach advocates for strategic alliances, technological advancements, and a strong, prepared military presence. By maintaining military superiority, Trump and the GOP aim to secure peace by projecting strength. He vows to end the war in Ukraine.”
 Trump is dedicated to preserving individual freedoms and Constitutional rights, they  said. “Protecting the Second Amendment, promoting religious liberty, and defending freedom of speech are all priorities within his agenda. Trump’s judicial appointments during his first term underscore his commitment to upholding these rights, a legacy he intends to build upon if re-elected.”
 In addition to being “pro America first”, GOP initiatives Trump supports include: pro border security; pro energy independence; pro peace through strength; pro tax relief for American workers (no tax on tips or overtime); pro life and protecting women (not allowing biological men in women’s sports or private spaces; pro protecting Social Security and Medicare including eliminating tax on Social Security; pro ending inflation and revitalizing the economy; pro military, law enforcement and Veterans; pro election integrity; pro ending electric vehicle mandates and cutting costly and burdensome regulations; pro defending the Constitution, Bill of Rights and fundamental freedoms.
