Sellner receives Pride of Extension Award

SHELBY COUNTY — Jennifer Sellner, County Youth Coordinator with Shelby County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, has received the Pride of Extension Award for the Southwest Area.  The award was announced as part of the Southwest area County Services awards program held in Atlantic December 19.
Sellner said she was honored to receive the award. “Each day I strive to connect Shelby County residents with valuable resources and programs that help build a strong Iowa. It has been a pleasure to serve Shelby County,” she said.
The Pride of Extension Award recognizes county extension staff who excelled in providing program, marketing and/or fiscal support and leadership.
Terry Torneten, ISU Extension & Outreach Regional Director, said, “Jennifer strives to offer programming in Shelby County that meets the needs of youth. Through her experience as a classroom teacher and the Community Health Needs Assessment, Jennifer saw a need for youth mental health programming. Jennifer has revitalized connections with county organizations including Iowa Ag in the Classroom, county conservation, public libraries, and Shelby County Emergency Management. These partnerships have allowed her to deliver robust, positive youth development across Shelby County.”
“Jennifer’s county awareness allows her to initiate meaningful conversations with clients ensuring she understands their needs and can provide valuable resources. She uses these conversations in planning for the next year’s program of work, showing that she values client feedback,” Torneten continued.
“Jennifer’s commitment to continuous improvement and her strategic use of resources ensure that Shelby County is well-equipped to solve problems and anticipate future needs,” he added.
