Over 425 children participated in Myrtue’s Kid’s Fest event

HARLAN - The Shelby County Public Health KidsFest Health and Safety Event was held on Saturday, April 16 at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium with HCHS Athletic Director, Mitch Osborn acting as the 2016 guest of honor for over 425 in attendance. There were 39 interactive booths and activities to provide education and awareness of health and safety issues for children and families of Shelby County.
The first 200 children received bicycle helmets or knee/elbow pads to promote bicycle safety. The Huff “N”Puffers bike club fitted kids with the helmets throughout the morning. Many mascots were on hand to great, hug, and take pictures with children of all ages. Children were also entered in a prize give away for family activities, games, movies and healthy food options.
The outdoor area provided children the opportunity to meet police officers, firemen, and helicopter pilots who serve our community. A highlight of KidsFest was the Midwest Helicopter landing in Vet’s parking lot which allowed children a close up look of this emergency transportation vehicle.
Myrtue Medical Center thanked the booth participants, financial sponsors, prize donors and everyone who volunteered their time and effort to make this event possible and so successful. Community Partnership for Protecting Children’s (CPPC) Neighborhood Networks has helped fund KidsFest. This grant is provided to help families build lasting relationships in their communities.
