New Laws on the Books

July 1 brings new legislation approved during the 2016 session, including many that will affect Shelby County residents

    STATE -- New laws went  into effect July 1 that influences citizens statewide on subjects regarding rural bridges, veterans, farm tenancies and various tax codes.
    Senator Jason Schultz weighed in and explained the various changes coming to the region. Representative Steven Holt could not be reached for comment.

Rural bridges
    Last year the gas tax increase bill was passed in order to add 10 cents onto the original gas taxation. The increase was to produce more money for rural bridges and roads. However, Schultz explains that multiple people were concerned about the formula behind the taxation, instead of raising the tax.
