Hospital revenues improve, but still remain in the red

After a successful 2014-15 fiscal year

HARLAN -- Riding a nationwide trend of declining patient visits and procedures, as well as tighter insurance payment procedures, Myrtue Medical Center’s revenues were up slightly in December to help it erase nearly $143,000 in losses - but they are still in the red with a fiscal year-to-date loss of $125,634.
To shore up those losses, both Barry Jacobsen, CEO, and Myrtue CFO Kristy Hansen told the board of trustees at their monthly meeting how administration and staff were tackling ways to stem the loss.
A key component will be a three percent temporary cost reduction plan over the final five months of the fiscal year expected to save $461,000.

And for next year’s tax budget, they are seeking a Feb. 23 public hearing to increase their property tax askings by an estimated $133,000, a 10 percent increase over this year’s asking.
