Fr. Gubbels named 2024 Myrtue Medical Center Hospice Volunteer of the Year

HARLAN — Father Wayne Gubbels, a retired Catholic priest, is Myrtue Medical Center’s (MMC) Hospice Volunteer of the Year.
Father Gubbels has volunteered as a chaplain for MMC Hospice since 2017 and has been a wonderful asset to their patients, families, and hospice team members.  He demonstrates his compassion by how he treats others and how he gives his time so generously.
Some of the services he provides includes on-going spiritual care and emotional comfort to patients at their home, nursing home, or any place he meets them.  Additionally, even if the hospice department calls him on short notice, he will drop everything to provide the Last Sacraments to patients.
Father Gubbels has also presided and assisted with patient funerals, and is able to provide spiritual support and comfort to the families.  Although Father Gubbels is retired and committed to hospice, he also continues to help local churches if needed.  Myrtue Hospice is very grateful to have him on their team.
