Wolves take down another ranked WIC softball foe
IRWIN -- IKM-Manning stayed right in the hunt for a Western Iowa Conference regular season softball title Thursday night (June 15), defeating 14th-ranked (2-A) Treynor 7-2 to avenge its only WIC loss of the year.
Wolves’ junior Peyton Gross pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and also scored three runs as IKM-M improved to 15-4 overall and 12-1 in league play, tied for first place with Logan-Magnolia (13-1) in the loss column.
Treynor, which beat the Wolves 8-2 on May 27, dropped to 12-3 overall and 10-3 in the WIC, managing just two unearned runs vs. Gross. Losing pitcher Sydni Huisman (double) and Madelyn Deitchler (single) had the only two Cardinal hits.
IKM-Manning jumped on top 3-0 right away in the first inning, then answered Treynor’s two-run fifth with two of its own in the bottom of the inning and scored two insurance runs in the sixth.
Friday game suspended
IKM-Manning was leading Underwood by a run Friday night (June 16) when thunderstorms halted play just one out shy of the necessary five innings for a complete game. The two teams will finish the game at a later date.
