Wolves fall to Denison 8-2
MANILLA (July 1) -- Scoring five unearned runs in the top of the third inning, Denison-Schleswig built an early 7-1 lead and finished off IKM-Manning 8-2 Monday night in non-conference baseball action.
The Monarchs (13-12 overall) threw one of their top two pitchers at the Wolves in senior Dawson Dorhout (4-4), who struck out 10 batters in six innings while allowing four hits, three walks and two earned runs.
The Wolves (6-14) got singles from Alex Lingle and Ethan Carter in the first inning and pulled within 2-1 on Dane Blom’s double play grounder. They managed just two hits the rest of the way, however, as Blom singled home Keaton Allmon in the third and Nolan Ramsey added a pinch-hit single in the fourth.
Tyler Henkelman (0-1) made his first mound start of the year for IKM-M and surrendered four hits and seven runs in three innings. Only one of the runs was earned, though, as three errors contributed greatly to Denison’s five-run third. Dane Blom pitched two and one-third scoreless innings of relief despite two walks and two hit batters and Jerod Henkelman allowed one run while recording the last five outs.
