Wolves’ rally falls short vs. No. 4 Panther girls

LOGAN (Dec. 5) -- The IKM-Manning girls quickly cut a 13-point deficit down to three during Tuesday’s second half at Logan-Magnolia, but couldn’t get over the hump in a 58-48 loss to the 4th-ranked team in Class 2A.
It was the second setback to a top-eight team in four days for the No. 10 Wolves, who suffered a five-point home loss to Panorama last Saturday.
Cold shooting was once again a problem for IKM-M, which made only 3-of-15 three-pointers and 20-of-57 shots overall (35 percent).
After two Shauna Reitan treys sparked a 10-0 Wolves’ run that made it 37-34, the momentum swung back to the Panthers on a four-point possession early in the fourth quarter.
Lo-Ma’s Kylan Straight hit the first of two free throws before Kylie Morrison rebounded a missed second attempt and turned the putback into a three-point play. A few moments later, Kenzie Cunard’s third 3-pointer of the game put the Panthers up 46-36 and the Wolves never got closer than five the rest of the way.
Lo-Ma’s balanced scoring attack saw Cunard lead the way with 17 points, followed by Morrison with 16 and Straight’s 15. Morrison also tallied 11 rebounds and five assists.
Reitan finished with a team-high 16 points and three steals for the Wolves, Peyton Gross worked hard on the offensive glass to net nine points and eight boards and Payton Sporrer and Gabby Cadwell both added six points.
