Warriors hold off HCHS in battle of ranked teams

Wild seventh inning features overturned call, protested finish and partial electrical outage

SERGEANT BLUFF -- For six innings, it was simply a competitive high school baseball game between two top-10 teams with state tournament aspirations next month.
The top of the seventh, however, was about as far from ordinary as it gets.
When it was all said and done - following an overturned call at first base, the tying run being sent back to third, a long discussion, a protested finish and a section of lights going out - Sergeant Bluff-Luton emerged with a 4-3 victory against Harlan Community Friday night.
The sixth-ranked (Class 3-A) Warriors improved to 20-6 overall while the third-ranked Cyclones fell to 14-4.
HCHS finished the game under protest, but as of Sunday head coach Steve Daeges had not heard from the state or the umpires and expected the final score to stand.
