Voge, Herrera play in All-Star Game

WEST DES MOINES -- Area graduates Drew Voge of Harlan Community and Rudy Herrera of AHSTW both played for the victorious West squad after being selected for the 2018 Iowa High School All-Star Soccer Game on Saturday, June 16.
Also known as the East-West All-Star Cup, the game was played at Valley Stadium and hosted by the Des Moines Menace of the Premier Development League, with support from Soccer Master and the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. Voge and Herrera helped the West team defeat the East 6-2 in a matchup of senior all-stars nominated by their coaches.
Voge, a midfielder, helped lead HCHS to a 16-3 record and a Class 2A substate final appearance this spring, ranking second on the team with eight goals. He totaled four assists, 42 shots and 29 shots on goal while breaking his own single-season school record with 75 steals. He also broke his older brother Jordan’s career mark with 248 steals and totaled 11 goals and 17 assists as the Cyclones went 48-21 during the last four years.
Herrera helped AHSTW finish 14-3 this past season and reach the Class 1A substate finals on the heels of last year’s 12-1 campaign. Primarily a defender for the Vikings, Herrera finished the year with one assist and no goals.
