Vikings win first Louisville team title

LOUISVILLE, NEB. (Jan. 20) -- Led by a trio of individual champions in Gabe Pauley, Gavyn Fischer and Brady Canada, AHSTW achieved a program first last Saturday by winning the team title of the Louisville (Nebraska) Wrestling Invitational.
The Vikings scored in 13 of 14 weight classes and led the 14-team field with 223 points, outlasting Sutton (212), Wilber-Clatonia (208) and Underwood (194).
Coach Evan McCarthy estimated that the Vikings have been competing in the Louisville tournament for about 20 years but had never before placed higher than second as a team.
Three Viking wrestlers placed second on the day: Joel Sampson at 113, Jaedan Rasmussen (126) and Joe Kenkel (182). Rasmussen lost twice to top-ranked Alex Thomsen of Underwood but dominated his other three opponents.
