Vikings win big over Wolves, stay unbeaten
AVOCA (Sept. 29) -- The battle for first place in Class 1-A, District 7 turned into a one-sided affair Friday night as the AHSTW football team outgained IKM-Manning by nearly 300 yards and stayed undefeated with a 41-7 win over the Wolves.
The 7th-ranked Vikings (6-0 overall, 4-0 in district play) used a balanced attack to tally 456 yards of offense and played turnover-free football, putting together five scoring drives that covered between 63 and 89 yards.
Senior quarterback R.J. Harris had a hand in five of the Vikings’ six touchdowns, including TD passes of 67, 37 and 7 yards to Drake Partridge. Harris also scored on runs of 39 and 19. Gabe Pauley capped the scoring with an 11-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
IKM-Manning became just the second team all year to score on AHSTW when Stephen Grimm capped a 12-play, 63-yard drive with a five-yard run midway through the second quarter, cutting the margin to 13-7.
The Vikings, though, would score twice in a span of 11 seconds later in the quarter - sandwiched around a fumbled kickoff return - and took a 27-7 lead into the half.
