Vikings stay near .500 mark with win at Griswold

 GRISWOLD (June 15) -- AHSTW capped a 2-2 week on the baseball diamond Friday night by outscoring Griswold 13-6 in Western Iowa Conference play.
 The Vikings improved to 6-7 overall and 4-7 in the WIC, taking the lead for good with five runs in the top of the fourth and pulling away with two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
 AHSTW totaled 11 hits and 11 stolen bases in the contest, also drawing nine walks.
 Sophomore Joel Sampson led the Vikings at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Brody Langer was 2-for-3 with three steals and two runs scored, Gabe Madsen had a triple and two RBI and Joey Cunningham singled and drove in three.
 Sam Porter (3-1) pitched six innings for the win, striking out 11 while allowing eight hits, six runs (two earned) and four walks.
Underwood 11, AHSTW 6
 AVOCA (June 14) -- Following a long first inning that saw Underwood score 10 runs in the top half and AHSTW answer with four, both offenses went dry and the Eagles were able to escape with an 11-6 win over the Vikings.
 Sam Porter (2 runs) and Brody Langer (2 runs, 2 RBI) both singled twice for the Vikings while Clayton Akers, Joel Sampson, Joey Cunningham and Gabe Madsen all added one hit.
