Vikings send three to Des Moines; Ring returns

UNDERWOOD -- Tim Barr won a district championship and two more AHSTW seniors - Jay Heiny and Dustin Engel - placed second at Saturday’s Class 1-A District Tournament in Underwood, each earning their first trip to the State Wrestling Tournament later this week.
Also qualifying for state (for the second straight year) was Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton senior Lane Ring, who placed second at 195 pounds.
All four area wrestlers will compete in first-round 1-A matches Thursday at 9:00 a.m. inside Wells Fargo Arena. The state meet will continue on Friday and Saturday (see separate schedule).
AHSTW (8) and Exira-EHK (4) combined to qualify 12 wrestlers for the district tournament, but both teams had one individual withdraw due to injury. Of the 10 remaining competitors, nine won at least one match to place first, second or third in their respective four-man brackets. Only the top two per weight class advance to state.
