Vikings roll to 7-0 with Saturday rout of Falcons

Harris has hand in six TDs as AHSTW wins big

IDA GROVE -- Different routine, same result for the AHSTW Vikings.
Playing Saturday instead of Friday night due to a rare football rainout, the 7th-ranked (1A) Vikes scored on eight of their first 11 drives and finished the game with 29 unanswered points to dominate OA-BCIG 54-14 on a breezy but sunny afternoon.
Senior quarterback R.J. Harris passed for three touchdowns and ran for three more as AHSTW improved its perfect win-loss records to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in District 7, still holding a one-game lead over IKM-Manning with two weeks left in the regular season.
The Vikings will try to wrap up a district title this Friday night when they host Logan-Magnolia (4-3, 3-2) at 7:00 p.m.
“Any time I can get on the field and play with my boys, it’s always a good time, and it’s definitely a good time when you’re putting up 54 points,” Harris said of the 19-hour postponement.
“We’ve got to keep doing our thing - playing Viking football, sticking together (as a) football family - and we’ll keep doing big things.”
AHSTW head coach Davis Pattee, who wasn’t thrilled at first with the game being pushed back, thought his players did a great job of adjusting to circumstance.
“We’re creatures of habit, so going to a Saturday is a little bit weird, but the guys really played well. I don’t know if it hurt or helped us, but we’re happy to get out of here with a win against a big, physical team,” Pattee said.
With OA-BCIG (4-3 overall, 2-3 District 7) scheming to slow down Viking fullback Gabe Pauley, Pattee’s squad responded by going over and around the Falcons much of the day, rather than straight at them on a muddy field.
Harris connected with Jake Martin for 19 yards on the first play from scrimmage and added completions of 56 yards to Drake Partridge, 20 yards to Pauley, 22  and 20 yards to Kevin Jorgensen and a pair of 18-yarders to Blake Osbahr. In addition, his touchdown passes went for 16 yards to Pauley, three yards to Partridge and 14 to Osbahr.
