Vikings’ Jorgensen earns district ticket

 MENLO -- Erik Jorgensen’s steady play over 18 holes was rewarded last Friday (May 12) when the AHSTW senior placed fifth in the Class 2-A Boys Sectional Tournament at Menlo’s 5x80 Golf Club, punching a ticket to this week’s district meet.
 Jorgensen earned the final individual qualifier spot from his sectional, shooting nine-hole rounds of 38 and 40 for a 6-over-par 78. Outside of two holes - both par 5s - Jorgensen recorded a 3, 4 or 5 on every hole throughout the day. He will now compete in Friday’s (May 19) 2-A District Tournament at Lake Panorama National Golf Course starting at 10 a.m.
 As a team, AHSTW placed third with a 345 at Menlo, trailing district qualifiers Panorama (301) and Des Moines Christian (331).
 Anthony Cordes finished with an 85 for the Vikings, Kevin Jorgensen shot a 90 and Logan Hoepener had a 92.
