Treynor girls top IKM-M by 20

MANNING (Jan. 25) -- The IKM-Manning girls put together a promising start against Treynor last Friday night, but the third-ranked (2A) Cardinals calmly gained control and pulled away for a 62-42 Western Iowa Conference road win.
The Wolves bothered Treynor early with their full court pressure and attacked inside effectively, building a 10-5 lead and forcing the Cardinals to take a pair of 30-second timeouts.
Treynor, though, would end the first quarter with a 16-3 run and start the second quarter with a three-pointer by Kayla Chapman to go up 24-13. The Wolves answered with a 6-0 run, but Treynor quickly increased its lead to 16 by late in the half never let IKM-Manning back in the game.
Sydni Huisman scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half to spark the Cardinals while veteran guards Konnor Sudmann (17 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists) and Kayla Chapman (16 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals) had big games as well.
IKM-M head coach Gene Rasmussen pointed to rebounding and defensive positioning as two areas that hurt the Wolves.
Gabby Cadwell led the Wolves with 13 points, followed by Lexi Branning and Sydney Wegner with seven points each and Caitlin Muhlbauer and Alexa Ahrenholtz both with six.
Treynor improved to 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the WIC. IKM-Manning is now 13-4 overall and 11-3 in league play.
