Towne set to join Christofferson in IGHSAU Basketball Hall of Fame

DES MOINES -- Former AvoHa-Shelby-Tennant all-stater Amy Towne is one of three 2017 inductees into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Basketball Hall of Fame. Towne will be honored during halftime of Saturday night’s Class 5-A state championship game at Wells Fargo Arena, which can be viewed live on IPTV. The 2017 Hall of Fame inductees also include Jaime Printy (Linn-Mar) and Carli Tritz (Sioux City Bishop Heelan). In addition, former Exira star Hallie Christofferson, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year but unable to attend the ceremony, will be recognized Saturday night.
Towne, a 1993 AST graduate, went on to play collegiately at both Missouri Western (Division II) and Arkansas State (Division I). She played 6-on-6 girls basketball in high school, scoring 3,178 career points. Towne once scored 80 points in a 109-101 double-overtime win over Treynor and she averaged 45.2 points per game as a senior in leading the Lady Vikes to the state tournament.
Christofferson, a 2010 Exira graduate, became an All-Big 12 performer at Iowa State and finished sixth on the school’s career scoring list with 1,709 points. She later played two seasons of professional basketball in Europe. While at Exira, Christofferson scored 2,247 points and grabbed 1,320 rebounds for a team that went 93-6 during her career, capped by a state championship in 2010. She’s one of just five players in Iowa to surpass both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during a career.
