Top-ranked Wildcats shut out IKM-Manning, 35-0

 INWOOD (Oct. 27) -- Top-ranked and unbeaten West Lyon was as good as advertised in last Friday’s first round of the Class 1A playoffs, beating IKM-Manning 35-0 to end the Wolves’ 2017 season.
 The Wildcats (10-0) outgained the Wolves 357-167 in total offense and already led 35-0 at the half. Quarterback Jaden Snyder threw two touchdown passes and also ran for a score. West Lyon will host Western Christian in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 3.
 IKM-Manning, which was led by Austin Ahrenholtz’s 20 tackles on defense, closed a successful year with a 7-3 overall record.
 “I thought our players did a good job overall,” said IKM-M head coach Tom Casey. “It was a very long trip up there - over a three-hour bus ride to begin with - which is a huge disadvantage. We had three fumbles, two of which led to short fields to work with giving their offense great field position. We had not fumbled the ball much this year, so maybe the cold was a factor there.
 “They were a challenge to defend as they can line up and run the ball at you or spread you out and throw the ball - very good at both. I thought our team gave a great effort and competed for four quarters.”
