Cyclones play tough in loss at Underwood

 HARLAN (May 14) -- Lewis Central looked every bit the part of the two-time defending Class 2A girls soccer champion here Monday night, scoring five goals in the first 10 minutes and winning 10-0 over Harlan Community.
 The game ended via the mercy rule in the 68th minute.
 LC, ranked first in 2A, has now outscored Hawkeye Ten opponents 55-0 this season as it improved to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
 The Titans substituted freely following their opening onslaught of goals and still led 8-0 at halftime. Senior Jaedyn Mauck scored the final three goals to record a hat trick while Dani Petersen and Grace Guidry both scored twice in the first 10 minutes.
 Kylee Hinz, Lindsey Andersen and Jaden Anastasi took the only three shots for HCHS, which dropped to 1-11 overall and 1-4 in the H-10. Makenzie Jones (13 saves) and Jackie Weisenborn (6 saves) split time at goalie.
Underwood 2, HCHS 1
 UNDERWOOD (May 11) -- The Cyclone girls put forth a strong effort on the road last Friday before running out of time in a 2-1 loss to Underwood.
 HCHS attempted many of its 12 total shots (7 on goal) during the second half and scored on Alicia Dominguez’s unassisted goal with about five minutes left. It was the first varsity goal of the year for Dominguez, who dribbled around the goalie to score.
 Underwood’s goals came in the 39th minute by Erin McMains (off a corner kick) and in the 60th minute by Kaileigh Ward.
