This time, HCHS boys top Panthers in O.T.
HARLAN -- The Harlan Community boys basketball team moved into a tie for third place in the final Hawkeye 10 standings on Tuesday night, outlasting Creston 70-66 in a wild overtime home finale.
It was the second time this season that the Cyclones and Panthers needed O.T. to reach a decision. On December 13, Creston prevailed 61-60 on Kylan Smallwood’s last-second 3-pointer. Smallwood put up 21 points in the rematch, but HCHS junior Shane Chamberlain scored eight of his game-high 23 in the extra session as the Cyclones stayed above the .500 mark with one regular season game to go.
HCHS, which needed a late 22-2 spurt just to force the overtime, improved to 11-9 overall and finished 7-3 in the Hawkeye 10 - tied for third with Atlantic and Glenwood. Creston (11-10 overall) placed sixth in the league standings at 5-5.
Cyclone seniors Joshua Cheek, Caleb Rasmussen, Alec Plagman, Jacob Croghan and Matthew Bjoin were recognized along with their parents prior to the Senior Night contest.
