Tigers outlast HCHS netters in five-set thriller

HARLAN -- On a proud night for Harlan Community Schools and HCHS volleyball coach Angie Spangenberg, the only thing missing was a victory on the court.
Shaking off a slow start on Tuesday, the Cyclones built a two-sets-to-one lead against Red Oak but couldn’t quite seal the deal, losing a frustrating five-setter to the Tigers, 21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 13-15.
HCHS held its annual Teal Out Night for ovarian cancer awareness in conjuction with the match, which was also preceded by Spangenberg’s induction into the KMA Sports Hall of Fame.
The action on the court lived up to the hype between two Hawkeye Ten stalwarts, with Red Oak clinching the victory on Harlan’s 12th serving error of the night at match point.
