Ten Vikings qualify for district wrestling

AHSTW dominates Underwood Sectional, advances to regional duals

 UNDERWOOD (Feb. 3) -- The AHSTW wrestling team put forth a dominant performance at Saturday’s Class 1A Sectional Tournament in Underwood, winning the six-team meet with 232.5 points and qualifying 10 out of 12 individuals for district competition.
 The Vikings and Treynor (186) were the top two team finishers and will now compete in Tuesday’s regional duals. AHSTW will travel to Missouri Valley and face West Monona-Whiting at 6 p.m. The winner will square off against 4th-ranked Mo. Valley or Bedford/Lenox for a ticket to the 1A State Duals on February 14.
 Saturday will also be a busy day for AHSTW as 10 individuals compete in the 1A district meet at Oakland (12:00 p.m.). The top two place-winners in each weight class will qualify for state.
 The Vikings finished the sectional with five champions and five runners-up. The list of champs included Joel Sampson at 113 pounds, top-ranked Gabe Pauley (170), Joe Kenkel (182), Gavyn Fischer (195) and Brady Canada (220), who all went 2-0 on the day.
 Placing second were Elliot Young (120), Jaedan Rasmussen (126), Ben Ehlers (132), Gabe Madsen (152) and Leland Barr (285).
