HCHS baseball team rallies past Glenwood 10-9 in game one of doubleheader, improving to 16-0

HARLAN -- Whether it’s a close game or a blowout, the Harlan Community baseball team just keeps on winning.
Freshman reliever Connor Bruck retired Ethan Fisher on a ground ball to shortstop for the final out Thursday night (June 15), preserving the top-ranked Cyclones’ 10-9 win over Glenwood as well as their undefeated record.
HCHS trailed 4-0 in the second inning and 6-5 in the fourth but rallied twice by posting four-spots in the bottom of those frames, then staved off a three-run Ram seventh to claim game one of a Hawkeye Ten Conference doubleheader.
The second game was suspended by lightning in the first inning and will be played on Thursday, July 6 (5:30 p.m.) in Harlan.
Cyclone senior Jacob Croghan held Glenwood in check after relieving starter Nick Foss in the fourth but ran into trouble in the top of the seventh when the Rams plated three runs on four singles. Mavrick Decker’s two-RBI base hit cut the margin to 10-9 with two out before Bruck came on and induced the Fisher ground out for his second save in as many games.
HCHS, now 16-0 overall and 13-0 in conference play, has won back-to-back games by just one run - rallying to take the lead a combined five times - and is 4-0 in one-run decisions. The remaining 12 wins have all come by margins of at least seven runs.
