State Cross Country: Wilson places 45th
FORT DODGE -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton senior Evan Wilson finished 45th out of 149 competitors in the Class 1A boys division of Saturday’s state cross country meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.
Wilson, who entered the state meet ranked 2nd in 1A by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, positioned himself in the top five of the race early on before falling toward the middle of the pack. His five-kilometer time was 17:31.4, nearly a minute off the pace he ran in placing first at the State Qualifying Meet in Mount Ayr on October 19.
Wilson was competing in his second career state meet. He earned a sixth-place medal as a sophomore before undergoing hip surgery during his junior year and narrowly missing out on qualifying for state.
