Sporrer, Clay earn multiple WIC gold medals

IKM-Manning girls place fifth, AHSTW boys seventh to lead area squads at conference track meet

NEOLA -- Sophomores Payton Sporrer of IKM-Manning and Gage Clay of AHSTW both won their two feature events at Tuesday’s Western Iowa Conference Co-Ed Track Meet, joining Logan-Magnolia’s Kylan Straight and Underwood’s Emma Bonnet as this year’s only WIC athletes to earn multiple individual golds on the Tri-Center track.
Sporrer dominated the girls 3,000-meter run and later the 1,500, posting winning times of 11:42.49 and 5:16.54, respectively. The 1,500 time was her best of the season. She later anchored the Wolves’ 4x400 relay to a third team gold and another season-best (4:24.93). The relay also included Shyanne Sporrer, Gabby Cadwell and Jessica Singsank.
Clay was unmatched in the boys 100 and 200-meter sprints, sweeping to victory with times of 11.45 seconds and 22.63. He finished 12th in the Drake Relays’ 100 last weekend.
The area’s sixth WIC gold came from Viking junior Spencer Symanowicz, who is in his first year of high school track. Symanowicz won the shot put with his best throw yet - 45 feet, 3.75 inches.
This year’s WIC team titles were claimed by the Treynor girls and Underwood boys.
