Spartan squads finish in Rolling Valley’s top four

Copic breaks own school record as part of two-gold night; boys shuttle hurdle team also sets new mark

 MONDAMIN -- Posting similar point totals while combining for three gold medals and two school records along the way, the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys placed third and the girls took fourth at Monday’s Rolling Valley Conference Co-Ed Track Meet in Mondamin.
 Spartan junior Emily Copic was one of six competitors to win at least two individual events on the night as she cruised to victory in the 3,000 and later improved her own school record in the 1,500 by nearly 13 seconds with a gold-medal time of 5:23.94. Copic was also part of the Spartans’ third-place 4x800 relay, joining forces with Deann Irlmeier, Kealey Nelson and Shelbi Wilson.
 The Spartan boys’ only win came in the shuttle hurdle relay when Levi Deakins, Cole Bruns, Brady Schlueter and  Brady Hansen clocked a school-record time of 1:04.78.
 Woodbine and Boyer Valley were the top-scoring schools at the meet and split the team titles with a combined 18 gold medals to their credit.
