Spartan netters sweep P-C in Rolling Valley opener

ELK HORN (Sept. 5) -- Solid passing, balanced hitting and the ability to respond out of timeouts were all critical for Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton here Tuesday night as the Spartan volleyball team opened Rolling Valley Conference play with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Paton-Churdan.
Three days after going 2-3 at the Missouri Valley Tournament, Exira-EHK served 93.2 percent with 10 aces and posted a kill efficiency of .218 in evening its overall record at 3-3.
“It’s a good start for us. It shows us what we need to work on and how much we need to improve before our next one,” said E-EHK head coach Hilary Runyan.
“Our passes were a lot better than they (were on) Saturday, but we need to work on just seeing the court (and) being in the right position on defense.”
Sydnee Young led the team with seven kills, followed by Grace Greving with six (.556 efficiency), Sophia Peppers five and Leslie Caniglia four (.500). Setter Bailey Robertson had 16 assists.
