Spartan boys golfers fall short of state meet

 ANITA -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys golf team finished one spot shy of a state tournament berth last Friday (May 19) after placing third in the Class 1-A District Tournament at Anita’s Crestwood Hills Golf Course.
 The Spartans tallied a team score of 343 in cool and wet conditions, finishing behind state qualifiers Coon Rapids-Bayard (329) and North Mahaska (332). There were 10 total teams in the field. CAM (351) and Wayne (353) rounded out the top five.
 The Spartan scorecard was paced by freshman Everett Carroll, who placed 11th in the individual standings with an 83 (42-41). Other scores for Exira-EHK included: Chris Paulson (85), Gage Lauritsen (86), Will Carroll (89), Connor Geib (90) and Jack Carroll (92).
