Spangenberg set to join IGCA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame

 HARLAN -- Former Harlan Community volleyball coach Angie Spangenberg will be one of four inductees into the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association Volleyball Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame for 2017. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 18, in Carroll as part of this year’s Senior All Star Weekend. The inductees also include coaches BJ Eldridge and Dennis Jandrey as well as long-time official Stuart Dusenberry of Atlantic.
 Spangenberg was the head coach at Red Oak from 1990 to 2007 and at Harlan Community from 2011 to 2016. During her 24 years of coaching, Angie compiled a 623-162-22 record. She took 14 teams to the state tournament, including nine at Red Oak and five at Harlan. She won two state titles in 2013 and 2014, both at HCHS, and also coached three state runner-up teams, which included the 2015 Cyclones. Her record at HCHS was 198-43.
 Spangenberg received numerous regional, state and national awards over the course of her coaching career. She was named IGCA State Coach of the Year three times, was the AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2014 and was also awarded the Golden Plaque of Distinction Award from the IGHSAU in 2016. Spangenberg served on the NFHS and the Iowa Volleyball Rules committee, the Player Hall of Fame committee and the Senior All Star committee. She coached the Senior All-Stars in 1998 and 2005 and also started the Red Oak Club program in 1991.
 Angie is currently the Harlan Community Middle School Dean of Students. She and her husband, Randy, have been married for 37 years. They have three children - Jared, Brock and Paige - and eight grandchildren.
