Softball: Raiders outslug HCHS, 11-7

HARLAN -- In a battle between two promising softball teams without a senior on either roster, Harlan Community fought back gamely but couldn’t catch a break in last Wednesday’s 11-7 home loss to Sioux City East.
The game featured 23 total hits, seven errors and lasted well over two hours at H. Jack Field.
Following two scoreless innings, the Black Raiders (20-13) scored five runs in the third and three in the fourth while the Cyclones (11-20) countered with three and four runs, respectively, in the home half of each frame to pull within 8-7.
HCHS managed just one hit the rest of the way, however, and East scored three late runs - all on infield singles - to pad its lead.
The Cyclones had some good moments offensively against a pretty good pitcher in East’s Chasity Johnson (no walks, 9 strikeouts). The three through six spots in the Harlan lineup, in fact, combined to bat 9-for-16 with five RBI and five runs.
Morgan Schaben finished 3-for-4 with a double and Lexi Larsen was 2-for-4 with back-to-back triples that drove in three. Anna Ahrenholtz and Madison Parman (2 runs, 2 RBI) both went 2-for-4.
