Softball: HCHS blanks LC, rained out at St. Albert

COUNCIL BLUFFS (June 25) -- Morgan Schaben’s fifth-inning two-run homer helped put the finishing touches on Harlan Community’s 7-0 softball win at Lewis Central Tuesday afternoon.
The game actually reached the bottom of the sixth before being halted by rain, so the score and statistics reverted back to the last full inning, which was the fifth.
HCHS (21-5 overall, 14-1 Hawkeye Ten) pulled away with three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Madison Schumacher hit an RBI single in the fourth and Tianna Kasperbauer made it 4-0 with a two-run single. Schaben belted her sixth home run of the year in the fifth and Jordan Heese added an RBI double.
Schaben also pitched all five innings for the win, blanking the Titans on three hits, walking two and striking out eight.
Schumacher went 3-for-3 at the plate, Schaben was 2-for-3 with a double and home run and Julia Schechinger was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Rainout:
HCHS was also scheduled to play at St. Albert Tuesday night but was rained out. The JV-Varsity games will now be played this Saturday (June 29) starting at 10:00 a.m.
