Softball: Cyclones outslug Knights for sweep

 CARROLL (June 12) -- The Harlan Community softball team won its second slugfest of the year vs. Kuemper Catholic Tuesday night, tallying 16 hits to outlast the Knights 11-8 in Hawkeye Ten action.
 Morgan Schaben led the Cyclones at the plate, going 5-for-5 with four RBI, including her second home run of the season and team-leading eighth double. Madison Schumacher (2-for-3) also hit her second homer and added a sacrfice fly for two RBI. Molly Gubbels was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Kate Heithoff added a pair of singles.
 HCHS led 3-0 until the Knights plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth and forced the Cyclones’ starting pitcher (Schaben) out of the game.
 HCHS responded with three runs in the top of the fifth, including Schaben’s two-run homer, but Kuemper came back with two in the bottom half to force a 6-6 tie.
 The Cyclones scored three more in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it 11-6 and held on.
