Sears, Weyer lead HCHS past Le Mars
HARLAN (July 12) -- Brett Sears homered and pitched five strong innings on Friday as the Harlan Community baseball team snapped a quick two-game losing skid with a 10-2 home win over Le Mars.
Sears (7-1) allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in his five-inning stint against the Bulldogs (12-15), striking out eight, walking one and hitting a batter. Alex Monson finished with two scoreless innings of relief.
The Cyclones (23-6) built a 5-2 lead after two innings and pulled away with two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth, outhitting Le Mars 11-5.
Sears hit his fourth home run of the year in the first and Derec Weyer added a two-run double to make it 3-1. Weyer doubled home another run in the sixth to give him three RBI.
Weyer, Connor Bruck (2 runs) and Luke Schaben (3 runs) all went 2-for-3 for the Cyclones.
