Schmitz boys earn medals at GISL state meet

 GRINNELL -- The Harlan Swim Club capped a successful 2017-18 winter season at the Greater Iowa Swim League State Meet in Grinnell on Saturday, March 10. Twelve swimmers attended the meet for the Harlan Swim Club and the team had a very productive day at their first-ever state meet.
 Ethan Schneckloth, Aubri Smith, Ben Schmitz, Eli Schmitz, Kara Wingert, Addie Berndt and Stephen Leinen all had at least one top 10 finish on the day.
 Ari Daniels and Schneckloth were honored as the GISL All-Star nominees from the Harlan Swim Club while Deb Morgan was the team-nominated Lay-Person.
 Eli Schmitz and Ben Schmitz were the lone medalists for Harlan, with Eli taking second place in the Boys 9-10 100 Backstroke and Ben taking second and third in the Boys 8 & Under 25 Breaststroke and 100 IM, respectively.
 Schneckloth joined previously qualified Midwest Regional swimmers Ben Schmitz, Eli Schmitz and Madi Schumacher from the Harlan Swim Club. Schneckloth earned a qualifying time in the Boys 11-12 50 Free with a 30.28. None of the swimmers plan to attend the Midwest Regional Meet as they have started participating in other spring sports.
