Schaben no-hitter highlights Cyclone sweep

Schumacher adds first home run as HCHS tops Fillies

 HARLAN -- Morgan Schaben pitched her first career no-hitter in game one and Madison Schumacher clubbed her first career home run in game two here Thursday night (June 22) as Harlan Community swept a varsity softball doubleheader from Shenandoah, winning 5-0 and 6-2.
 Schaben (3-10) put it all together in the first game of the twin bill, blanking the Fillies on no hits and striking out 10 in seven innings. She walked two, hit one batter and allowed just four base runners.
 Offensively, HCHS backed up their sophomore pitcher with two runs in the first and three insurance runs in the sixth, totaling six hits.
 Madison Parman went 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI and Julia Schechinger added a double and one RBI. Kaylie Briggs, Schaben and Emily Brouse all singled.
 In the night cap, the Cyclones scored all six of their runs in the second inning and got a solid pitching performance from Brouse (7-7), who allowed just five hits and one earned run in seven innings. She walked none and struck out five.
 Schumacher highlighted the six-run second with her first home run, a three-run shot.
 Schumacher also got hit-by-pitch three more times in the doubleheader, bringing her total to 13 on the year - second in the state.
